In 1963 a caboose was purchased from the Rio Grande Railroad and moved to South Park City. It represents the type that would have been used on the Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad. The caboose was always the last car on a freight train and was a self-contained home and office on wheels for railroad personnel.
There is a small cook stove and sink near the entrance and a fold-down table used for writing. Steps lead up to the cupola, an area above the main roof, where the train crew could view the entire train, looking for any kind of trouble that may occur.
